Summery Artist: Akeman Artist Creations

Julie, a former beach-dweller, creates fantasy-like images. Check out her shop!

Tell us a little bit about your shop and how you got started:
I was always a painter, I first started putting my art online at artid, but had to find another place that was better for my budget.  Some suggested Etsy.  I checked it out and thought my art was more like what you'd find on Etsy.

I am mostly a fantasy painter but I often go back to doing sea things like shells, dolphins, whales, whatever comes to mind.  Recently I did a great sea turtle, I don't paint too realistically, I tend to have fun with the colors.

How does the ocean/beach inspire you?
I used to live near beach areas, Seal Beach in California and Puget Sound up in Washington State.  I always had a thing for whales and dolphins, and collected shells and sand dollars as a kid.  Loved watching ocean nature shows and since blue is my favorite color I really love those blue oceans.

What is your favorite beach destination? Why?
I really liked Seal Beach when I was living there.  Mostly because they had a pier with a Ruby's restaurant at the end, everytime the fishing boats come in the placed rocked.  That particular ocean area had a story published about a teen girl practicing swimming and found a stray baby grey whale, the book is called Grayson, very cute.
